Complete Guide to Agniveer Recruitment 2026

The Agniveer scheme, officially known as the Agnipath Scheme, was launched by the Government of India to modernise how young Indians are recruited into the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Under this scheme, candidates between the ages of 17.5 and 21 years serve for a fixed period of four years and are officially called Agniveers.
At the end of four years, up to 25% of Agniveers may be selected for permanent enrollment based on merit and performance. The remaining 75% receive a one-time, tax-free Seva Nidhi package of approximately Rs.11.71 lakhs and go on to pursue civilian careers — many with priority hiring in government departments and PSUs.

Agniveer Selection Process 2026

The Agniveer selection process is a multi-stage evaluation testing physical fitness, academic knowledge, and medical standards. Here is exactly what to expect at each stage:

HOW THE SELECTION WORKS

Online Registration & Application

Register on the official Indian Army / Navy / Air Force recruitment portal. Upload your documents, fill in personal details, and select the post you are applying for. Keep Aadhaar, marksheets, domicile certificate, and passport photos ready.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

The first on-ground stage at rally venues. It includes a 1.6 km run (under 5 min 30 sec for GD), pull-ups (minimum 6, full marks at 10), balance beam, and 9-foot ditch jump. Only PFT passers proceed to the next round.

Physical Measurement Test (PMT)

Height, weight, and chest measurements are recorded against official standards for your category. Any mismatch with declared values or non-compliance with standards results in disqualification at this stage.

Medical Examination

A thorough medical check for vision, hearing, flat feet, colour blindness, and chronic illness. Candidates declared unfit may apply for a review medical examination within the prescribed timeframe.

Merit List & Document Verification
A combined merit list is prepared based on physical and written scores. Shortlisted candidates are called for final document verification before enrollment is confirmed. All original certificates must be produced.

Common Entrance Exam (CEE)

Written exam covering General Knowledge, Mathematics, General Science, and Reasoning (based on category). Conducted online or offline at designated centres. Minimum qualifying marks apply for each category.

Preparation Tips for Agniveer 2026 — Beginners Guide

Start Running Daily
The 1.6 km run is the first eliminator. Build up to completing it under 5 min 30 sec. Run 3 km daily and gradually increase pace over 8-12 weeks.

Master Pull-Ups & Upper Body
Practice pull-ups, push-ups, and dips every day. Aim for at least 10 clean pull-ups. A strong upper body significantly improves your PFT score.

Study the CEE Syllabus
Download the official syllabus for your category. Focus on Maths (Class 8-10 level), General Science, and Current Affairs. Practise previous year question papers regularly.

Get a Medical Check-Up Early
Visit a doctor and check vision, hearing, and
overall health well before the rally. Address any
correctable issues — like weight or minor
conditions — in advance.

Keep All Documents Ready
Collect originals and attested copies of Aadhaar, marksheets, domicile certificate, caste certificate (if applicable), and passport photos well in advance.

Maintain a Balanced Diet
Eat a protein-rich diet, stay hydrated, sleep 7-8 hours, and avoid habits that affect stamina. Physical performance depends heavily on consistent nutrition.
